Expansion

One Vision. Seven Countries.

How a journey that began with one founder in Bamako grew into an African footprint — and why the map is still being drawn.

Bamako, Mali → Seven African Countries

In 2014, the SAFIR map had one point. Bamako. One founder. One city. One vision of what could be built.

There were no offices across Africa. No regional footprint. No network of teams spanning borders. There was simply a belief that world-class transformation expertise could be built from Africa — and that African organisations could be served by people who understood both the technology transforming business and the realities shaping business on the continent.

That belief became SAFIR Consulting.

For the first five years, the focus was not on how many countries could carry the SAFIR name. It was on building something strong enough to deserve to grow.

Then, in 2019, the map changed. Côte d’Ivoire. Before the year was over, it changed again. Cameroon. Then came Senegal. Burkina Faso. The Democratic Republic of Congo. And now, in September 2026: Sierra Leone.

Twelve years after that first point appeared in Bamako, SAFIR’s footprint reaches seven African countries. But geography tells only part of the story. Because behind every new point on the map is something that cannot be measured in kilometres: a team built, a relationship earned, a market understood, a client served, a new piece of SAFIR taking root.

The story is not simply that SAFIR crossed borders. It is what SAFIR became each time it did.

Before the Footprint — 2014–2018: Build Before You Expand

Every growth story looks inevitable once you see the finished map. It never is.

In 2014, there was no guarantee that a company beginning with one founder in Bamako would one day operate across multiple African markets. There was only the work — building capability, building credibility, building relationships, building a team. Learning what clients truly needed, and proving, engagement by engagement, that SAFIR could deliver it.

For five years, the map stayed simple. Mali. But beneath that single point, the foundations were getting stronger. Because expansion was never going to be about planting flags. It had to be about building a company whose expertise, culture and standards were strong enough to travel.

By 2019, they were.

The First Border — 2019: The Moment SAFIR Became Bigger Than One Market

There is something significant about the first border. Until then, everything SAFIR had built had been proven in one country. Crossing into Côte d’Ivoire in early 2019 meant testing a much bigger idea: could what we had built in Mali work somewhere else? Different market. Different organisations. Different expectations.

The answer would shape what SAFIR could become. Côte d’Ivoire became our second point on the map. And suddenly, SAFIR was no longer only a company from Mali — it was becoming a company capable of growing beyond Mali.

Then, before 2019 was over, something happened that changed the rhythm of the story. We crossed another border.

When One Expansion Became Momentum — Late 2019: Cameroon

Cameroon became country number three. Two new markets in a single year — West Africa and Central Africa. One growing SAFIR. What had taken five years to begin was now gathering momentum.

But the significance was not simply that the map had three points instead of one. SAFIR was learning how to become a multi-country organisation: how to carry a shared standard into different environments, how to combine regional expertise with local understanding, how to grow without turning every market into a copy of the one before it.

That lesson would become increasingly important. Because Africa is not one market. And SAFIR would never grow by treating it like one.

The Years You Don’t See on a Map — 2020–2023: Not Every Chapter of Growth Adds a Country

There is a temptation to tell expansion stories only through openings — new country, new office, new flag. But some of the most important growth happens when the map does not change at all.

Between Cameroon and SAFIR’s next expansion came years of strengthening what had already been built: deepening expertise, serving clients, developing people, learning across markets, building the internal capabilities required for the next stage of the journey.

Because sustainable expansion is not measured by how quickly a company enters a country. It is measured by whether it becomes stronger after it does. By 2024, the map was ready to move again.

The Second Wave — March 2024: Senegal

A decade after SAFIR began in Bamako, Senegal joined the journey — a fourth country, another West African market, another local presence connected to a growing regional network.

But this expansion felt different. SAFIR was no longer discovering whether it could operate across borders — we already knew that. The question had become: how much stronger could we become by connecting what each market knew?

Expertise no longer had to stop at a national border. Experience from one country could strengthen delivery in another. People could learn across markets. Capabilities could travel. The footprint was beginning to behave less like a collection of locations, and more like a network.

Then the Pace Changed — 2025: Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo

Some years add another chapter. 2025 added two. First came Burkina Faso. Then, in December, the Democratic Republic of Congo. By the end of the year, the single point that had represented SAFIR in 2014 had become six.

But six countries meant more than six locations. It meant six sets of business realities, six sources of perspective, more local relationships, more talent, more industries, more experience flowing through one organisation.

And with every expansion, the original idea behind SAFIR became more tangible: be close enough to understand, be connected enough to deliver beyond borders.

The Seventh Point — September 2026: Sierra Leone

And now, the map changes again. Sierra Leone — our seventh African market, our newest chapter. Twelve years after one founder began SAFIR in Bamako, the journey reaches another coastline, another economy and another community of businesses with their own ambitions for growth and transformation.

But Sierra Leone matters for another reason. It allows us to look back at that first point on the map and understand just how much has happened since. 2014: one founder, one country. 2026: seven countries, one connected SAFIR.

Sierra Leone does not complete the map. It changes it again — another border crossed, another local presence being built, another market becoming part of a network that did not exist when the journey began.

Seven countries later, expansion is no longer simply something SAFIR does. It is part of what SAFIR has become.

The SAFIR Difference — We Cross Borders. But We Build Locally.

For SAFIR, entering a new country has never simply meant adding another location to a corporate profile. It means getting closer — closer to clients, closer to talent, closer to industries, closer to the realities shaping each market.

Because Africa cannot be understood from a distance. Its markets are distinct. Its organisations are different. Its opportunities are different. Its challenges are different. And meaningful transformation requires more than technology expertise — it requires context.

That is why SAFIR’s growth has always been about something deeper than geography. We bring the strength of a regional organisation, but we build relationships locally. We share expertise across borders, but we listen within them. We grow across Africa by becoming part of the markets we serve.

One SAFIR. Seven Countries.

The real power of seven countries is not seven offices. It is what becomes possible when they connect. A lesson learned in one market can strengthen another. Expertise developed by one team can support clients beyond its borders. Industry experience can travel. Talent can collaborate. Perspectives can meet. And every new country can make the entire network more capable than it was before.

That is the organisation SAFIR is building. Not seven isolated points on a map — one connected African network.

“Local enough to understand. Regional enough to connect. Experienced enough to deliver.”
From One Founder to Many Builders

There is another way to look at this milestone — not through countries, but through people. Because the distance between Bamako in 2014 and seven countries in 2026 was not crossed by strategy alone. People carried SAFIR across those borders. People joined. People believed. People built teams. People opened doors. People earned trust. People solved difficult problems. People carried the culture into places where the SAFIR name was new.

What began with one founder became a journey built by many. And behind every new country on the map are people turning expansion into presence. One founder started the story. Many people are writing what it has become.

The Map Is Still Being Drawn

In 2014, the SAFIR map had one point: Bamako. Today, it stretches across Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone. Seven countries. Different markets. Different realities. Different teams. Connected by one SAFIR.

What began with one founder has become something larger than geography — a growing network of people, expertise, relationships and ambition across Africa. And perhaps that is the real milestone: not simply that SAFIR crossed borders, but that with every border crossed, SAFIR became more African.

Sierra Leone is the newest point. It will not be the last chapter. Because twelve years after the journey began, the map is still changing. The network is still growing. The ambition is still moving.

“One vision. Seven countries. One SAFIR. And the map is still being drawn.”
